๐ In-depth analysis
The Makita DDF487 is a compact, brushless 18V drill driver designed for the LXT battery ecosystem. As a brushless model, it offers improved efficiency and a longer lifespan compared to older brushed motors, making it a staple for both home maintenance and light professional tasks. With over 800 orders and a solid rating, this specific listing has established a significant track record on the platform. It is important to note that this is a bare tool listing, meaning it is intended for those who already own compatible 18V batteries and a charger.
While the 2026 branding in the title is likely a marketing label rather than a technical specification, the DDF487 itself is a well-known sub-compact model. It balances a small footprint with the power needed for most drilling and driving applications. Given the high volume of sales, the product is a popular choice for users looking to expand their existing Makita toolkit without the high cost of a full retail bundle.
โ Pros
Brushless motor technology provides better energy efficiency and less maintenance than brushed alternatives.
High order volume and a positive rating suggest consistent performance and shipping reliability.
Compact sub-compact design allows for easier operation in cramped or overhead locations.
Full compatibility with the widely available Makita 18V LXT battery platform.
Cons and cautions
The listing is for the tool only, requiring a separate investment in batteries and a charger if you don't own them.
Lacks a hammer mode, limiting its use to wood, metal, and plastic rather than masonry.
This analysis is written with an AI model from the product data (name, category, price, rating and orders), not from a hands-on test. How we choose and score
Who it's for: This tool is ideal for existing users of the Makita 18V LXT battery system who need a lightweight, brushless drill for tight spaces. It suits DIY enthusiasts and tradespeople who prioritize portability and motor longevity over heavy-duty masonry drilling.
Who should skip it: This is not suitable for those who do not already own Makita 18V batteries, as they are not included. It is also not the right choice for users requiring a hammer drill function for heavy concrete work.
๐ Check before you buy
Confirm with the seller if the unit is an original Makita product or a compatible third-party replacement.
Verify whether any accessories, such as a belt clip or bit holder, are included in the package.
Ask the seller to clarify the exact manufacturing year and if the '2026' label refers to a specific revision.
Check if the shipping includes the original retail box or if it is shipped in bulk packaging.
๐ฐ Value verdict: The current discount makes this a very competitive option for a brushless tool. Given the high number of successful orders and the respectable rating, the price is fair for a bare tool. It offers a cost-effective way to add a reliable, high-efficiency driver to your existing collection.
๐ก Tips
Use high-quality bits to prevent stripping screws, as the brushless motor delivers high torque for its size.
If you are buying from overseas, double-check the seller's shipping protection to ensure the tool arrives without impact damage.
Register the serial number on the manufacturer's website upon arrival to check for any available local support.
Questions about this product
Does this drill come with a battery and charger?
No, this is a 'bare tool' listing. You must provide your own compatible 18V LXT battery and charger to use it.
Can I use this to drill into concrete or brick?
This model is a drill driver, not a hammer drill. While it can handle light masonry with the right bits, it is not designed for heavy concrete work.
Is the motor truly brushless?
Yes, the DDF487 model is specified as a brushless tool, which generally means it runs cooler and lasts longer than brushed versions.
